2022 Impact Report

Introduction

As a recovery year from the pandemic, 2022 was still hard on our communities as it was for the world. The Pandemic's hardships reminded us of the importance of being there for each other, to care for the world in what we do and the importance of community efforts. We’re constantly challenging ourselves to improve our impact, reduce our footprint, and educate our travelers on the importance of traveling sustainably.

Our Mission

1
To Educate our travelers on conserving the fragile ecosystems that tourism depends on.
2
Reduce our carbon footprint by assessing and reducing the impact of our tours, educating customers and encouraging the use of carbon offsets where possible.
3
Celebrate local cultures and encourage the use of local suppliers both in our HQ and for our travelers on tour.
4
Lessen the amount of waste and pollution resulting from our tours.

2022 Impact Highlights

Environmental

Tree Planting

As our business continues to grow we’re able to make meaningful contributions back to communities. We do this through our partnerships like with Sustainably Run, where one tree is planted with every booking. This year alone we have planted in excess of 1200 trees in developing countries. We chose to partner with Sustainably Run due to the variety of trees they plant and the numerous benefits it has on the environment and local communities.

Sustainably Run uses specially trained technicians helping communities and farmers understand forest garden design, composting, nursery development, perma-gardening and out planting techniques. The trees not only help the environment but also the local communities providing a livelihood and food.

Due to the range of trees planted, communities can:

• Grow their own staple crops, vegetables and fruits.
• Create low hanging leaves and foraging spaces for animals.
• Use surplus wood for fuel and construction.

Other Benefits

Provide Food
Fruit trees provide food for families and contribute to enhancing their diet.
Provide Income
Products sold on the market provide income and facilitate access to healthcare and education.
Repair Ecosystems
Land that has lost trees is more susceptible to flooding, mudslides and landslides. Re-planting trees helps to mitigate this risk.

Clean ups

In the Maldives we take part in Beach Cleanups to help educate our travelers on the importance of reducing waste both at home and while traveling. On each of our Maldives tours we averaged 5-7 hours of beach clean ups, and in total:

• 40-56 hours of beach cleanups.
• A total of 865.328kg of waste collected.
• 189.36kg of recyclable plastic collected.

Office

• Our Manchester HQ runs on 100% sustainable energy supplied by Octopus.

• Our drinking water is supplied from natural springs and a 100% Carbon Neutral Company.

• We pledge to reduce single-use plastic while traveling including bringing a refillable water bottle and avoiding plastic bags, we encourage all of our customers to do the same.

Animals

Thailand

In Thailand we visit ethical Elephant Sanctuaries to help support the lives of rescued elephants and to educate our customers on some of the negative sides of the tourism industry. We believe in no riding, no bullhooks, just love.

In 2022 we have:
• Spent 169 hours in ethical elephant sanctuaries; learning, feeding and supporting the gentle giants.
• Sent over 700 people to a sanctuary to experience, learn and share their new knowledge and passion of elephant history and conservation.

Bali

In Bali, our tours encompass turtle conservation to support the growth of turtle populations around Indonesia and educate our customers of the threats to turtles and the importance of their ecosystems.

In 2022 we have:
• Spent approximately 168 hours in turtle conservation centers.
• Helped over 300 travelers experience and learn about turtle conservation.

Communities

Thailand

To support young communities in South East Asia some of our tours encompass teaching English to help young children learn the English language.

Across 2022 we;
• We gave over 750 people the experience of teaching basic English in schools, we hope this has inspired some to further take up teaching back in the UK or around the world.
• Spent approximately 449 hours Teaching English in local schools.

Our Plans for 2023 and Beyond

"We will assess the carbon footprint of each of our tours to not only help our customers make informed decisions about how the tours they choose impact the environment, but also to help us reduce this footprint over the coming years."
